Sonic Wallet

Sonic Wallet
The Sonic Wallet was designed slim and minimal as the
essential daily wallet. With a distinct sheen and great feel,
Sonic Fabric is woven using recycled audio cassette tape ribbon.
This wallet is created using Sonic Fabric recorded with a single note, OM, C# 136.1 Hz. which is the base note of the sitar and tamboura as well as the note upon which Tibetan monks base the OM chant.

SONIC FABRIC is the invention of sound and conceptual artist Alyce Santoro. Creating a beautiful,
audible, versatile textile, the fabric is woven from 50% polyester thread and 50% audiocassette
tape which is recorded with collages of sound.
Sonic Fabric was originally intended for use in installation artworks based on the notion that at the most basic
level, all matter – all particles – ultimately consist of vibration. Incredibly, the fabric retains it's magnetic
properties throughout the weaving process, remaining audible. When a tape head is dragged along
its surface, it emits the recording with an underwater-like sound quality.
Ethically manufactured, Sonic Fabric is woven on a 1940’s dobby loom at a small family run textile mill in
New England. The large spools of tape used in the weaving process are salvaged from the
waning audiobook industry.
